Looking to buy a home in the Portland Hillside Neighborhood? The Hillside neighborhood is part of the Neighbors West Northwest (NWNW) larger neighborhood group and has a lot to offer the home buyer. Nestled in the foothills just NW (duh!) of downtown and the Alphabet district, Hillside is a great location with a quick dash down the hill to “trendy-third” & downtown restaurants and an equally easy dash over to larger shopping outlets in Beaverton. Homes are typically in a wooded setting, but still has the feel of a city neighborhood. It is mostly residential with the exception of the Pittock Mansion, a City of Portland tourist attraction (and to me, a national treasure — such a cool place!)
Located at a slightly higher elevation than most of Portland, the area did have some additional snow in the weird and unusual 50 year storm that the winter of 2016/2017 brought. The Southern boundary of the area is roughly Burnside, the Northern border follows Cornell. The Eastern border is where Cornell drops down into Westover, and the western edge is roughly Hillside but where it hits the nature preserve.
Single family homes run from the low $500,000’s to many millions depending on lot size and view. Almost every home there is custom and different from its neighbors. Most lots are hilly with some flat building pads, many have big decks and treetop or city views. There are some condos available, notably the Hillside complex, which has spectacular views and fairly vertical multilevel floorpans.
